Job Overview

Job Purpose

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team in expanding our core product offering and working across major client projects. The Propylon Government Solutions team is developing the next generation of Legislative workflow management tools. The ideal candidate will be a detail-focused Quality Engineer with several years of relevant experience and strong knowledge of automated testing tools, including Selenium and Playwright, as well as familiarity with procedure-driven automated tools (RPA).

 

The candidate will join a small, focused Quality Engineering team working within the legislative space and will be expected to take ownership, contribute to technical decision-making and help set direction for quality engineering practices.

 

Propylon is a small software company dedicated to delivering high-quality software for our clients. Individual contributors at Propylon have significant influence over technical decision-making and are expected to take high levels of ownership for the code and quality of the products they support.


Responsibilities:

 

  • Work closely with Quality teams & Analyst’s within Propylon to ensure client releases are at their most robust before going to UAT.
  • Manage defects throughout the SDLC by executing functional and non-functional testing across multiple projects and client implementations.
  • Building out Functional test plans and strategies against User stories and business design documents to ensure traceability from requirement’s, to story, to test case.
  • Create and maintain detailed, effective test plans and test cases, ensuring appropriate coverage and traceability across requirements, stories and business design documents.
  • Participate in planning of regression test coverage and execution against each release.
  • Manage and grow business regression test suites and ensure appropriate regression coverage across multiple implementations.
  • Work with Quality test leads to design and implement overall Test automation strategy for the various client implementations, paying particular attention to maintenance.
  • Run and report results from automated test suites and maintain and update automated test scripts and frameworks.
  • Automate functional UI and API tests and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of automation frameworks.
  • Work closely with product and project teams to estimate, prioritise, plan and coordinate testing activities.
  • Working with internal project team members to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Collate, analyse and report on QA-related metrics, providing progress updates to management and product and project stakeholders.
  • Acting and tracking on lessons learnt (retrospective items) from one release to the next across multiple implementations.
  • Ensure quality standards and processes are adhered to consistently, while identifying and taking ownership of opportunities for continuous improvement and optimisation of testing processes.
  • Participate in quality-driven activities with external clients, representing the QA team and supporting User Acceptance Testing phases where required.
  • Take an active role in peer review sessions to ensure high-quality work is produced consistently across the team.

 

Requirements:

 

  • 3+ years of relevant QA/Quality Engineering experience with a strong understanding of software testing techniques and processes, including test case development and execution.
  • Experience working with and maintaining automation frameworks, e.g. Selenium, Playwright or similar.
  • Ability to automate functional UI and API tests.
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases.
  • Experience with Xray or other similar test case management tools.
  • Experience using test management and project management tools such as GitLab, JIRA/Xray or ALM.
  • Experience testing APIs, both functional and non-functional, using tools such as Postman.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment with a good understanding of Agile principles.
  • Experience in preparing test results and reports for upper management to track testing progress.
  • Ability to identify, report and manage QA-related risks.
  • Ability to define, communicate and implement process improvements.
  • Working knowledge of SQL based RDBMS, e.g. Postgres, MySQL.
  • Strong organisational and task management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a rapidly growing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven decision making capabilities.
  • Ability to take ownership of quality activities and work independently while contributing effectively to a small, focused Quality Engineering team.
  • Be personally well organised, presentable, and manage one’s own time effectively.

 

Nice to haves:

 

  • Certified testing qualification (ISTQB, ICAgile, etc.).
  • Programming experience, preferably in Python or JavaScript.
  • Experience with RPA Libraries within Python.
  • Experience with XML processing.
  • Experience with document management/document workflow software.
  • Familiarity with DevOps workflow/principles around building automated testing suites on CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with office-style applications e.g ability to create macros, spreadsheet formulae, etc.
  • Experience working with JIRA.
  • Experience working in an agile team.
