Job Purpose

The role holder will be responsible for the execution and delivery of high quality Standard Essential Patent (SEP) analysis within the IP Research team. This position requires an experienced analyst who can take the operational lead on assigned SEP projects, ensuring technical rigor, methodological consistency, and adherence to ISO 9001 quality standards, as we continue to build our capabilities in this specialist area.

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth Standard Essential Patent (SEP) analysis across technologies such as Audio-Video Codecs, Wi‑Fi, and 3GPP (including 5G, LTE, LTE-A).
  • Prepare and validate claims-to-standards mappings, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and technical rigor.
  • Perform high-quality validity and invalidity searches for SEPs using relevant patent and non-patent literature sources.
  • Develop and refine search strategies aligned with client objectives, ensuring methodological soundness and clarity.
  • Prepare and validate detailed claim charts to support licensing discussions and litigation processes.
  • Draft comprehensive search reports summarizing findings and providing clear, objective, and actionable insights.
  • Track and analyze standards development activities, including technical specifications, change requests, contributions, and meeting documents.
  • Follow ISO 9001 processes to ensure consistent, high-quality, and compliant project outcomes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance internal processes, methodologies, and knowledge sharing.
  • Apply experience in novelty/patentability, validity, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and state-of-the-art searches in alignment with ISO 9001 standards (preferred).

Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of relevant standards across technologies such as Audio-Video Codecs, Wi‑Fi, and 3GPP (5G, LTE, LTE-A).
  • Proficiency in established methodologies for essentiality analysis and SEP-focused invalidity searches.
  • Working knowledge of tools, platforms, and techniques used to develop effective SEP search strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive prior-art searches and deliver high-quality analytical outputs.
  • Experience in intellectual property (IP) analysis, including patent searching and evaluation, is advantageous.
  • High attention to detail, with a structured approach to documentation, validation, and adherence to ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical findings clearly and concisely.
