Job Purpose

You will be responsible for delivering translations of the highest quality and accuracy, on time and within budget. You will act as a translator for projects and accounts, performing tasks such as planning and managing the work of in-house and freelance translators, taking responsibility for required QA work such as review, and providing linguistic support to your project manager. Reporting to the Translation Line Manager or Translation Manager, you will be expected to develop continuously your translation technique and skills, based on regular feedback and mentoring, and to assist in the active progression of other members of the translation team.

Job Overview

Employment type: Full-time & Permanent & Remote (Work from home in Malaysia)

Working hours: Monday – Friday: 09:00 – 18:00 (Malaysia time) with 1-hour lunch break

Overview of Job:

You will be responsible for delivering translations of the highest quality and accuracy, on time and within budget. You will act as lead translator for projects and accounts, performing tasks such as planning and managing the work of in-house and freelance translators, taking responsibility for required QA work such as review, and providing linguistic support to your project manager. Reporting to the Translation Line Manager or Translation Manager, you will be expected to develop continuously your translation technique and skills, based on regular feedback and mentoring, and to assist in the active progression of other members of the translation team.

Key Responsibilities:

o Translation of medical, life science, software, technical and multimedia texts and collaterals from English into Malay.

o Review (editing and proofing, 'revision') of translations done by other translators.

o Understanding and correctly complying with RWS’s linguistic and project procedures and processes.

o Meeting the required standards for quality, throughput and delivery deadlines.

o Acting as lead translator by taking ownership for accounts, which include but not limited to, ensuring timely delivery and translation quality, project planning and assignments to the appropriate resources, communicating closely with internal/external linguistic resources and making sure all projects requirements are fulfilled, answering linguistic queries and providing linguistic support as necessary to project managers and linguistic resources, performing QA checks and quality evaluation, purchase order management and issuance, managing Internal Client Review (implementation, rebuttal).

o Managing terminology effectively.

o Linguistic QA testing of localized software, help and websites.

o Linguistic QA checking of localized DTP and audio output.

o Using required translation tools in the most effective way, especially with regard to RWS’s language technology.

o Full linguistic support for RWS project managers on your projects.

o Communicating & attending meeting with client/client reviewer as a representative of RWS on linguistic matters.

o Providing linguistic support for other RWS departments such as DTP, Engineering and Audio.

o Accurately recording daily working time through use of Timesheet program.

o Manage any other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by Line Manager.

o Acting as back-up for other team members (such as lead translators) at the request of your Line Manager.

o Actively contributing to the maintenance of high quality standards throughout the team.

o Actively contributing to the improvement of systems and procedures.

Competences and Experience

Translating competence:

o 5-years minimum professional translation/localization experience in any content.

o 2-years minimum professional translation/localization experience in medical content (clinical, regulatory, medical devices, pharmaceutical, etc.)

o Educated to degree level, preferably with a recognized qualification in medical/life science fields such as medicine doctor, pharmacy, biology, surgery, public health, clinical, medical science, etc.

o Able to use CAT tools like Trados.

o Excellent translation ability in applicable subject areas, being able to produce translations which are accurate, linguistically correct, consistent, complete and adapted to country standards.

o Highly quality conscious.

Linguistic and textual competence:

o Native speaker ability in translation target language.

o Excellent command of required source language.

o Knowledge of major text type conventions for applicable languages.

Research competence:

o Ability to research in depth a variety of subjects to acquire specialized knowledge

o Knowledge of Internet searching and tools.

Cultural competence:

o Advanced knowledge of cultural standards associated with source and target languages.

Technical competence:

o High level of computer literacy and related technical competence.

o Knowledge of Translation Memory tools and linguistic technology, based on practical experience

o Good typing skills.

Personal competences:

o Motivated self-starter, who can work on own initiative as well being a strong team player.

o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

o Good organizational and time management skills.

o Flexible and proactive approach to tackling tasks and problems.

Domain Competence:

o Ability to understand the source language content and apply the appropriate style and terminology to the target language.

You will be provided on-the-job training about RWS translation procedure including CAT tool
