Job Purpose

You will manage a team of Language Specialists and Coordinators to deliver high quality language services and support that result in excellent customer satisfaction. You will perform all management responsibilities across the team and may work as a Lead Language Specialist utilizing advanced functional expertise.

 

You will be responsible for the management and end quality of all projects taken on by members of your team, and you will be involved in planning the translation aspects of projects taken on by your team members from start to finish, making sure that projects assigned to your team ‘happen’. You will need to keep involvement with all projects taken on by your team at all times, and are responsible for ensuring the correct methodology is used throughout, particularly at the start and if there are any changes to scope. You will work closely with the Language Office Director to develop and measure the individual skills or performances of your team members. You will ensure effective utilization and productivity of your team. You will be responsible for correct resourcing and QA (Quality Assurance) for projects carried out by your team. You will play an active part in recruitment, training and the creation & implementation of Translation Department systems and processes.

Responsibilities

 

• Communication: Passing on to your team members an understanding of RWS corporate culture and goals, and acting as a role model for your staff to follow. Clearly conveys information and ideas through a variety of media and in a manner that engages others, helping them understand and retain the message. Hold one-on-one and team meetings with team members at least every 2 weeks, possibly weekly to go through week’s work, looking at ongoing objectives and training needs.

 

• Effective resourcing: Scheduling the work of each team member on short and long term basis. Projects should be allocated to team members according to their experience of subject matter and availability. Ensuring each team member organizes their work in the most effective manner. Resolving project conflicts in the team. Ensuring deadlines are met. Keeping involved in projects being worked on by your team at all times, and ensuring that team members are using the correct methodology at all times.

 

• Attention to Quality and Detail: Monitoring the quality of work done by each team member. Responsible for the end quality of the work done by the team. Reviewing, or organizing reviews of each individual by experienced translators and carrying out formal evaluations.

 

• Utilization and Productivity: Monitoring the productivity & utilization of the team. Ensuring every member of the team is working efficiently and is busy at all times. If there is no work on your site, finding alternative work within other divisions and providing a list of background tasks which your team members can take on during any unavoidable downtime which will help future projects.

 

• Development of team members: Identifying areas that need improving, and training the person to help them improve. Carry out regular development plan review of team members, and use KPI matrix as basis for measuring development and setting agreed objectives which are specific, measurable and achievable.

 

• Training: Provide training to all team members on project-specific translation requirements, the localization process, RWS procedures, tools, etc. Transfers decision making authority, task responsibility and autonomy to others.

 

• Recruitment: Taking a proactive part in the recruitment process: reviewing tests, conducting interviews. Recruiting on a continuous basis in order to find the best people to work in the Translation Dept.

 

• Procedures and Discipline: Ensuring the team members understand and follow RWS’s procedures. Take appropriate action to ensure compliance. Constantly looks for opportunities to improve work processes and results.

 

• Results Orientation: Successfully achieves results, diligently working to overcome obstacles to achieve goals. Effectively leads teams to achieve team goals.

 

 

Skills and experience

 

• Bachelor or Master Degree in translation, linguistics or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 5+ years’ experience in localization industry, as a linguist or project manager.

• 1+ years’ experience in people management role.

• Strong organizational and human management skill.

• Objective oriented self-motivation.

• Fluent spoken and written English communication.

• Proficient data management and analysis skill.

 

 

Asset

 

• Good knowledge of CAT (Computer Aided Translation) software.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
